Poppers
There’s nothing better than the delight of watching the first few kernels pop followed by the cascade of pop pop pop and the heavenly smell of fresh buttered popcorn that fills your home. When you decide that you’ve had enough of popping corn in those disposable aluminum pans and want to graduate to a real popcorn popper there are some things you should know to ensure that you get the best tasting popcorn, with convenience and safety.
When picking out a new popcorn popper check the machines design carefully. Does it have: a dishwasher safe cover; a visible line for measuring oil; nonstick surfaces; and a signal light?
One of the most important features is to ensure that the design has incorporated a steam escape feature. In some poppers the cover is made to fit loosely so that steam can escape while in others there may be small holes or vents. It is imperative that steam pressure not be allowed to build up inside the popper.
Ensure that the popper you are buying has a major scientific laboratory testing seal which attests to its safety. The pressure that builds up inside poorly vented a heated popcorn popper can be intense, and some substandard products infiltrating onto our store shelves from unscrupulous overseas manufacturers can literally explode, causing serious injuries.
Check to see if the popper you’re buying is automatic, which means it will shut itself off when the popcorn’s done; or standard, which will just stay on until you turn it off. If you get distracted you could set fire to the popcorn and the kitchen would shortly follow.
It makes sense to exercise some caution when purchasing a popcorn popper so that you’ll come home with a machine that will give you years of tasty pleasure and safe fun.
