July 4th

Fourth of July is definitely our most All-American holiday. July 4th is a perfect match for popcorn gifts and recipes, the All-American snack food. A day full of picnics and treats, and popcorn should be the backdrop for every Fourth of July. You can enjoy it hot, buttered, and freshly cooked or you can make it ahead of time.

In order to make it truly All-American, make up a batch ahead of time and separate it into three equal groups. Take the popcorn and lay it out flat. Using spray on cake decoration you can turn one batch red and a second batch blue. With the remaining third batch, still white, you will have a uniquely patriotic party snack recipe.

Another option that will allow you to prepare ahead of time is popcorn balls. These sweet treats can be made in advance. They can be handed out throughout the 4th to children and grown-ups alike. A little red and blue food coloring will dress these up for the Fourth as well.

Some people have to have their popcorn fresh, even when they’re picnicking. Several different brands offer campfire kits for popping popcorn. These are normally small, vented, metal containers on long metal tongs. With some oil and your favorite kernels you can enjoy your popcorn hot and fresh all day on the Fourth of July.
